Modest Summer Fashion: How To Stay Cool And Covered

Modest Summer Fashion | Put On Christ Apparel

When the warm weather hits, it’s tempting to keep cool by showing skin. Modest summer fashion goes out the window with all the comfortably cool weather. The short shorts start appearing and girls show up in shoulder-baring tank tops and dresses. Then, for exercise, any person heading out during the hot summer sun can count on seeing women in sports bras and extremely short shorts, and men going shirtless.

It can be difficult for sure to dress modestly in the summer. When the hot sun comes out and temperatures rise, covering up is the last thing on anyone’s mind as cooling off and getting comfortable becomes a priority. However, modest summer fashion doesn’t have to come at the expense of being comfortable during the summer. Stores may be full of skin-baring clothes, but it is possible to stay cool and covered.

Protection Through Covering Up

Most people think of summer and hot weather and automatically want to shed the layers of winter. However, many dermatologists and physicians suggest the opposite. Protecting yourself from the weather isn’t just exclusive to cold weather. The sun and hot weather can be just as damaging, which is why covering up is important. In fact, dermatologists suggest that sunscreen is only one level of protection and clothing and shade is a better way to protect yourself. Covering up doesn’t mean being uncomfortable, however. Wearing the right clothes can keep you cool and help you avoid hot weather ails like sunburns and skin cancer.

Use Light Fabrics

Wearing clothes that are lightweight as well as lightly colored will help not only protect you from the sun and keep you cool, but also dress fashionably modest. Avoiding layers, like scarves and sweaters, can also help you stay cool. Many designers who produce light-colored clothing in the summer also make that clothing out of lightweight fabric. Furthermore, it’s possible to find shirts and dresses that are not spaghetti straps so that you can avoid having to layer up.

It’s Not Just About Clothes

When most people think about staying cool in the summer, they automatically go to clothing – shedding the layers and showing more skin. However, being comfortable in the summer has more to do with just clothing. Leaving your hair down if you have relatively long hair is a sure way to stay uncomfortably hot. If you want to be cool, put your hair up and avoid other things that prevent your body from sweating naturally and regulating your internal temperature. These things can even include lotions and body oils.

The Benefit Of Modest Summer Fashion

It’s also important to invest in loose-fitting clothes. Tight clothes are all the rage, even in summer. However, the tighter the clothes, the harder it is for your body to regulate temperature as sweat is unable to evaporate. Allowing your body to “air out” by wearing clothes that allows air flow, will help you cool off. This is especially true for athletic clothing, which is famous for being immodestly skintight. The looser the clothes, the cooler you’ll be in the hot weather. However, this doesn’t mean you have to wear baggy or frumpy clothes either, as many companies provide fashionable loose-fitting clothing. With today’s trends, it may seem like a longshot to dressing fashionably and remain cool during the summer and yet modest. However, doing a little extra work will not only help you live out your faith through modest living, but will help you stay cool when the hot weather hits.
